To further the idea of Milwaukee Avenue north of the Six Corners intersection as a cultural destination, this Master Plan proposes to create a public gathering place north of the Portage Theater, and enhanced signage and pedestrian connections via Cuyler Avenue to the Laporte Avenue public parking lot

Cuyler Avenue currently suffers from storm-water drainage problems, broken pavement, and poor lighting. Although some signage exists, it is not clear to many Portage Theater patrons that they are a block from a public parking lot with more than 111 spaces. Short-term enhancements could include special pavement on Cuyler Avenue, new sidewalks, and better signage.

The latest proposal from GW Properties is very close to what was initially envisioned in 2013 by the authors of the Six Corners Master Plan. Just go to page 24 of the Master Plan and read what the plan says about Irving Park Road by the now former Peoples Gas site. After doing so, please review the latest proposal from GW Properties and compare them.

After nearly 60 years  serving our business district the City of Chicago decides to sell our 111 car parking lot located at 4040 N LaPorte Ave.

Low utilization is the stated reason but planning officials admit selling of city assets is a way to help with this year's budget shortfall.  City officials seem to unaware of the many monthly passes that are sold for this lot and are NOT included in the city's utilization formula. Last month CPM sold 42 monthly passes which are good for parking 24 hours a day  every day of the month.  The parking passes alone  make the utilization rate at 38% before counting meter revenue.
